Course Outline

We believe in learning by doing. Our philosophy places major emphasis on building working skills through practical and classroom experiences. After an initial orientation session, students work on dogs under an instructor’s close supervision.

School Hours

  • Mon – Thurs: 8:30am – 3:30 pm
  • Fri: 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

Total hours = 360 hours

Canine Anatomy:

  • Bone Structure

Tools and equipment needed for the trade:

  • Clipper and Blades (Control and Use)
  • Scissors and Thinners (Control and Techniques)
  • Brushes, Combs and De-matters
  • Shampoo and Conditioners (Products and Applications)
  • Powders and Cleaners

Pre-work:

  • Overall condition (skin and coat)
  • Trimming nails
  • Cleaning ears
  • Checking anal glands

Dematting, Bath and Drying

All Breed Grooming:

  • Herding group
  • Hounds group
  • Non-Sporting group
  • Poodles
  • Sporting group
  • Terrier group
  • Toy group
  • Working group

Pet Safety – the do’s and the don’ts

CPR for Dogs

  • dog behaviour therapist Deb Levasseur presents classes on CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for dogs

Field Trips to other grooming shops in homes and retail space

Learn about associations in the industry

  • Soft skills training in booking appointments and
